Summer is here which means your site visitors are looking for fun things to do in your community. You can makes this easy for them by creating a "Summer Fun" calendar or quick filter on your calendar. Follow the steps below to create and share this customized calendar on your website.
How to make a Summer Fun Calendar
Step 1: Make a Copy of Your Existing Calendar
Start by making a copy of your current calendar.
This saves time because your existing location rules and filters will automatically carry over — no need to recreate them from scratch. You’ll simply add summer-specific rules to this new version.
Step 2: Add a New Group to Your Query
In your new calendar:
Add a new Group to the query.
Select the OR statement within that Group.
Add as many summer event-related tag rules as you’d like.
Here are some common tags being used on summer-related events in Yodel:
summer concert series
summer fun
summer passes
summer giveaway
summer music series
summer camp
splash pad
summer series
summer traditions
Using multiple tag variations ensures you capture all relevant events! You can find what tags are being used on any event by simply opening the event (scroll to the bottom to see the tags - you must be logged in to your account to see this), or visit the list preview of events in your plug-in manager. This will show you all tags associated with every event on your calendar.
Pro Tip
You now have the ability to manually add tags to any event in Yodel.
If you notice a summer fun event in your area is not automatically pulling into this calendar based on your rules, simply add one of the tags above to that event. Once tagged, it will appear automatically.
(See our separate help article on how to add tags to an event.)
Important: Check Your Main AND/OR Setting
Make sure the main AND/OR statement (located in the upper-left corner of the query builder) is set to AND.
This tells Yodel to include:
Your original location-based rules
ANDYour new Summer Fun tag rules
If the main setting is set to OR, Summer Fun events from outside your designated geographic area may appear in your calendar.
Refer to the example query screenshot below for guidance.
Step 3: Save and Share Your Calendar
Once your Summer Fun filters are set and you’re seeing the correct mix of events:
Click Save
Install the widget code, API or iCal to your Summer Fun events page or blog
Your Summer Fun Events Calendar is now ready to go!
✨ Promotion Tip:
Share your new Summer Fun calendar in your newsletters, on social media, and across your website to help residents and visitors easily find all the patriotic celebrations happening in your community.
How to make a Summer Fun Quick Filter
Step 1: Edit your existing calendar and open Step 2: Create Quick Filters
From here, select Add New Quick Filter
Step 2: Give your quick filter a name
Make it something that will catch attention from your users! Ideas include:
